🌏 Australian brushturkey (Alectura lathami) 

The Australian brushturkey (Alectura lathami), also known as the Gweela, is a large, ground-dwelling bird native to Australia. It has a black plumage, a bare red head, and a yellow or purple wattle. Males are known for building massive mounds of organic matter, which they use to incubate eggs laid by multiple females. The chicks hatch from these mounds and are immediately independent. Brushturkeys are clumsy flyers and often walk or run on the ground. They are omnivorous and eat a variety of insects, seeds, and fruits.

Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1)

Distribution: Widespread across eastern Australia.
