I recently explained to my wife what stimming is - and how it perhaps has positive benefits for the person.
Now she is like a person with new found liberty. "It's just me stimming" apparently justifies any behaviour at all.
Today I communicated to my coworker that I was overstimulated and at minimal capacity.
She immediately jumped into help me and hold my hand and support me and made sure I didn’t get overwhelmed.

Despite my meltdown last night, I kept plans to travel to visit a friend overnight. We stayed up past midnight talking. And at first, I didn’t engage much. And it was okay. I warned her and her husband ahead of time. /1

I grew up hyperlexic, which people interpreted as willful, intentional hyperverbosity.
It gave them license to give me a hard time and mock me for being quiet, or so they thought.
