After he gave his closing keynote "From the CLI to API and IDE" at #AutoCon3 about the transition from networker to coder, I had to find him and follow up with a few questions.

How does it feel to be shouted out in the keynote?

Thanks to Jason Edelman, I got to experience this during #AutoCon3

Clear network service abstraction is key! It feeds customer info & templates to orchestration for device selection & automation for config changes. Observability then monitors the new service. Great insights from #autocon3!

Key takeaways from #autocon3 on network automation evolution:

1️⃣ Basic scripting (doesn't scale)
2️⃣ Generic engines like Ansible (too slow/not tailored)
3️⃣ Network-specific orchestrators (open-source standard)
4️⃣ Workflow engines (often closed, in-house/products)

I have to say, as far as conference swag goes, that’s a first. #AutoCon3

It’s easy to forget how much we rely on open source. It’s harder to ask: Are we doing our part to keep it alive?

Instead of handing out swag at #autocon3, we’re donating to open source projects for every person who gets their email register at our booth. It’s a small step, but it’s a start.

Great first day at #autocon3, lots of great discussions with new and old friends.
with the @opsmill.bsky.social team we ran a workshop on data modeling and network source of truth in the afternoon, the room was packed and there was a lot of interest for modeling and for Infrahub, super exciting.
