Cut out of two women against a yellow background. Text says celebrating the plant health professional register

Cut out of a woman wearing a lab coat and safety goggles. Text says Why did you apply for PHPR? “I applied for the PHPR while working in plant and soil biological research, eager to understand how my skills fit within the broader field of plant health. The application process encouraged me to reflect on how much I’ve grown and gave me the confidence to pursue postgraduate study. My advice? Go for it. It’s more than just a form, it’s a valuable opportunity to recognise and celebrate your progress.” Emma Feeley RPHP RSci AMRSB

Cut out of a woman with long brown hair. Text says What advice would you give to someone who is considering applying to PHPR? “Applying to the PHPR is rewarding, and a valuable way to validate your skills and join a recognised community of plant health professionals. Ensure that you familiarise yourself with the competency guidelines early on so that you understand what the assessors are looking for, as this will help you choose examples that best demonstrate your experience. Also, keep track of your CPD throughout the year.” Elizabeth Law RPHP

Cut out of a bald man with a white beard wearing a red shirt against a yellow background. Text says “I am nearly 81 years old and remain an active Chartered Member. I’ve been a biologist since before I learned to walk - yes really! As a retired Member, I am an active biologist, editor of the local beekeeping magazine and heavily involved with rewilding my 20 acre patch of moorland.” Dr Peter Hiley CBiol MRSB

Cut out of a woman in a red jacket with short black hair. Text says "Reflecting on all my experience throughout the application process allowed me to truly appreciate what I have achieved in my career so far and gave me a real confidence boost. We all have moments of self-doubt, so my CBiol status continually provides a gentle reminder that I deserve to be where I am today." Dr Ruth Brown-Shepherd CBiol MRSB

Cut out of a man in a grey shirt and turban on a yellow background. Text says “I have been a CBiol since 1972 and, more recently, a FRSB. These have helped greatly in my wildlife conservation projects and endeavours, most notably in the Middle East where so often your accreditation matters.” Richard Porter CBiol FRSB

Cut out of a man in a black shirt and glasses against a yellow background. Text says What advice would you give to somebody applying for Chartered Biologist? “Make sure you read the instructional materials on the RSB website carefully and satisfy yourself that you are capable of submitting clear answers for all competencies. Write these in rough, reflect and consider, and only then submit a response. My online course will walk you through the whole process, from eligibility to applying to retention of post nominals via annual CPD reports. But, if in doubt, talk to the RSB's Registers team.” Laurence Dawkins-Hall CBiol CSci FIScT FRSB
