AWS Direct Connect now supports resilience testing with AWS Fault Injection Service AWS Direct Connect now supports resilience testing with AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS), a fully managed service for running controlled fault injection experiments to improve application performance, observability, and resilience. With this capability, you can test and observe how your applications respond when Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) sessions over your Virtual Interfaces are disrupted and validate your resilience mechanisms. With this new capability, you can test how your applications handle Direct Connect BGP failover in a controlled environment. For example, you can validate that traffic routes to redundant Virtual Interfaces when a primary Virtual Interface's BGP session is disrupted and your applications continue to function as expected. This capability is particularly valuable for proactively testing Direct Connect architectures where failover is critical to maintaining network connectivity. This new action is available in all AWS Commercial Regions where AWS FIS is offered. Customers can now instantly establish private, high-speed connections to AWS by simply entering their location, selecting bandwidth, and choosing their AWS Region. The launch simplifies the connectivity experience by automating complex network configuration including BGP peering, VLAN configuration, and ASN assignment. AWS announces preview of AWS Interconnect - multicloud AWS announces preview of AWS Interconnect - multicloud, providing simple, resilient, high-speed private connections to other cloud service providers (CSPs), starting in preview with Google Cloud as the first launch partner and then with Microsoft Azure later in 2026. Customers have been adopting multicloud strategies while migrating more applications to the cloud. They do so for many reasons including interoperability requirements, the freedom to choose technology that best suits their needs, and the ability to build and deploy applications on any environment with greater ease and speed. Previously, when interconnecting workloads across multiple cloud providers, customers had to go the route of a ‘do-it-yourself’ multicloud approach, leading to complexities of managing global multi-layered networks at scale. AWS Interconnect - multicloud is the first purpose-built product of its kind and a new way of how clouds connect and talk to each other. It enables customers to quickly establish private, secure, high-speed network connections with dedicated bandwidth and built-in resiliency between their Amazon VPCs and other cloud environments. Interconnect - multicloud makes it easy to connect AWS networking services such as AWS Transit Gateway, AWS Cloud WAN, and Amazon VPC to other Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) quickly, instead of weeks or months. Interconnect - multicloud is available in preview in five AWS Regions. You can enable this capability using the AWS Management Console. AWS Direct Connect support for 4-byte Autonomous System numbers for Virtual interfaces AWS Direct Connect now supports 4-byte Autonomous System (AS) numbers for virtual interfaces. Direct Connect uses the standard Border Gateway Protocol to provide customers with private connectivity to the AWS global network. However, customers with complex, multi-tenant network topologies or who need to maintain consistent AS numbering across their entire network can run into challenges with the maximum limit of 65,536 possible 2-byte AS numbers. With 4-byte AS numbers, customers can now use the entire range supported by RFC 6793, up to 4,294,967,294. Support for 4-byte AS numbers is now available in all AWS regions globally and on all Direct Connect virtual interface types. To get started, visit the AWS Direct Connect Console or use the updated APIs to create virtual interfaces with the new 4-byte AS numbers.
