The garments are in a beautiful deep red with all the gold embellishments, as described. There is fringing to the edge of both garments. It is hanging up on the wall behind a Perspex shield.

Gentleman’s cape with an attached waistcoat. It is believed to be of Eastern/Asian origin. Constructed in heavy cotton and lined with silk. Richly embroidered throughout with gold threadwork and much hand sewing. It fastened at the neck with a twisted cord.

The shoes are quite narrow and pointed. The sign about them also says “owned by Mrs Edworthy to wear when driving her 1920s vintage car in competitions…” To the left of them are a pair of child’s cream shoes with a butterfly picture on each.

This photograph shows a dark and lowering sky over the grassy cliff where it dips in the middle to meet the beach. The sea is at the back of the picture, it doesn’t look particularly inviting even though it is low tide and the sand is uncovered.

This picture shows the pebbly beach in the foreground with the sand and rockpools and then the sea. Again the sky is overcast and threatening.

Happy Easter to you all! 🐣 The beach was looking pretty gloomy this morning, although the sun has just broken through here. The museum is open today &tomorrow from 11-4 and we have the kids Easter trail &photo op and our secondhand book sale with hardbacks £2 and paperbacks £1.

The marble is primarily brown with clear snail shapes in it of cream with black outlines and sometimes just the outlines.

The grapeshot is at the top and left of the photo. The label explains it is from the early 19th century. Small cannon balls which were fired together to create a shotgun-like effect. Donated by the Smyth family. At the bottom right is the musket shot, much smaller than the grape shot. There are two, a British one on the left of the cardboard backing and a French one on the right hand side of it.

Grapeshot and musket shot. The former was discovered at Barrack Park #Bexhill, former location of the King’s German Legion. The latter was fired at the Battle of Waterloo. Both are on display in our Sargent Gallery.
