The whole multidisciplinary team have a role in supporting adherence to treatment. Discussions should be free of judgement and blame, allowing patients to be open and honest, so clinical teams can best support patients in a bespoke and personal way. #BSR25
Some studies suggest patients with chronic conditions take their medications only 50% of the time. But medications for rheumatic diseases work over the long term, and only work if we take them. #BSR25
There are many factors that can affect medication adherence #BSR25
Yet increasing adherence can have a huge benefit for patients.
Non adherence to medication costs over £930m per year in the UK. #BSR25
"Non adherence should not be seen as a patient problem" but is something for the whole clinical team to consider. R

Hearing about medication adherence in rheumatology at #BSR25 and some of the reasons patients stop or reduce their treatment. We are presenting results of our research in this at #EULAR25 later this year.
