Keep you texts handy, you will refer back to them throughout the semester. Highlighting and annotating theory Friday texts is super helpful too, so save those notes to the same folder or drive for easy access. #BSUENG490

Take care of yourself—some of the topics are hard, worth it, but hard. You can manage it and take care of yourself, just ensure you prioritize it. #bsueng490

Always be planning ahead! Give yourself time to read the readings, get the basic ideas, and take note of what other people say. You get an amazing experience to hear such unique voices unlike your own. Listen, engage, and empathize #BSUENG490

#bsueng490 I suggest actually doing the readings, it’s very easy to get lost in the class if you don’t understand what the reading was about.

100% engage in the content, but also know when it is too much for you. A lot of the materials are super cool and engaging, but please be ready to get crazy. Read ahead and be prepared to talk; the conversations will help you later in the class.

#bsueng490 Plan early, and do not be afraid to ask for help!! Especially when you get to the Theory-Driven Essay, do your absolute best to follow the structure that Dr. Ferguson lays out, it is there to help you!! Do your best, ask questions (all q's are good q's!), and open your mind to new ideas.

#bsueng490 Make a summary for each of the theory Friday readings to help you make a plan for your Theory driven essay easier without having to read back through all of them.

My general advice for this class would be to do the readings! Even if you fall behind on some, it is definitely worth it to yourself to catch up for class! It will pay off :)

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Email, raise your hand in class, do whatever you need to help yourself the most :) #bsueng490

Tip: Read the texts and give yourself enough time to finish them. Some readings can be long. If it helps, I also had a doc where I put quotes and my thoughts as I was reading. That helped to make my bluesky posts.

time management!! seems obvious, but balancing readings for all of your classes can be difficult (especially for upperclassmen). cut out a day of the week for each class, create a schedule, etc.

Take good notes over theory days and make sure to enjoy the readings! Have fun, they are good reads!

#BSUENG490 Mentally fortify yourself for this class. This class is not afraid to get into the nitty-gritty. There are subjects that can be triggering, but there is also plenty of care taken with them. Don't be afraid to care for yourself!

Take notes! On the books you read or on the theory papers you read. You might not think you need to but you will end up using them so much more than you think, especially for the bigger assignments like the theory essay. #BSUENG490

#bsueng490 PLEASE READ THE TEXTS!! if you don’t have time or don’t feel like it, at the bare minimum skim it because you’ll be screwed for the rest of the class if you don’t read anything

Highlight as you read any of the novels! Anything you think is especially feminist or related to the class, you won’t want to reread and hunt for good quotes once you finish them and you’ll need them for the papers. #bsueng490

I found her transformation to horse to be very interesting to read and reading about her emotions and the rage that she felt. #BSUENG490

#bsueng490 This story was intriguing to me, especially as an audiobook. Watching these two characters interact and learn around one another was cool. "...her hard judgments of me will soften, turn into questions. We'll both feel a sudden snare of recognition-- wildness face-to-face with itself."

I found the different sections starting with more questions about the horse transition interesting. Like this is a deliberate choice unlike some of the other stories we've looked at where animal-like transitions are non-optional results of experiences. #BSUENG490

#bsueng490 I was thinking kinda similarly to others that the transformation with animals specifically allow women to break out of their bonds its interesting it takes a more animalistic side to make that push.

"I got up stark naked and pulled aside the curtain. One of the horses was standing right outside, staring in with her dark liquid eyes. I felt the bed creak behind me then heard Kathy gasp. She saw it too. The horse gave a deep, slow nod. Then she turned and disappeared into the night." #BSUENG490

Ouch. That's a tough one. #BSUENG490

I thought that the friend being pregnant contrasts the horse transformation quite nicely. One is conforming to societal norms while the other is not. #bsueng490
