The Pepsi 349 Incident was probably the worst PR disaster in corporate history. In the Philippines in 1992, Pepsi printed numbers in bottlecaps that won prizes, including a top prize of a million pesos if you got the number 349. Unfortunately, 800,000 extra "349" bottlecaps were mistakenly put into circulation, and Pepsi couldn't pay up (the prize value totalled $32 billion). This led to lawsuits, public outrage, protests, riots, and even bomb and arson attacks that lett live dead.
