Levi Badger Chase in his 1919 book, The Bay Path and Along the Way (Norwood, 1919), claimed he found the lost 1630s path connecting Massachusetts Bay with Springfield. He subscribed to a hypothesis that the Newtown company led by Thomas Hooker took this path to settle Hartford.
