A Roseate Spoonbill hovers over chicks in the nest. There were four chicks in all, but in this photo, only a couple can be clearly seen. One chick, in particular, stretches up to Mama or Daddy Spoonbill, likely asking for lunch. This chick has a longish bill, but no sign of the rounded end that the adult has yet. The chick is either covered in pink fuzz or in white fuzz through which you can see its pink skin. It is quite ugly, but in a cute way.
Yesterday, I got to check off (figuratively speaking) an item from my #BirdBucketList. I have hoped for years to see Roseate Spoonbill chicks at the rookery at #SmithOaks Audubon Sanctuary and my hopes have always been dashed. Yesterday, I finally succeeded! #birds #originalcontent #photography 📷
