#BirdGlamour says BOO! this Halloween with the Spotted Lanterfly! Calling southeast Asia home, these planthoppers were first noted in Philadelphia in 2014! Populations are checked by parasitic wasps in southeast Asia but are an invasive species in N.A., going after agriculture and lumber crops. 🐞

Calling south Europe & Mediterranean home, Cyphocleonus achates was released in North America in the 1980s to control spotted knapweed. It may be working? #WeevilWednesday #GlamorousByNature

Doomscrolling? Who isn't? Time to scroll your eyes on the Banded Alder Borer! This fancy beetle calls western North America home, from Alaska to New Mexico. They lay their eggs in the bark of downed hardwood trees. It's unclear why, but these beetles are attracted to fresh paint! #BirdGlamour 🧪🐞

Tea-Cher, Tea-CHER, TEA-CHER! The Ovenbird's distinctive song is heard in eastern North America! This warbler forages for invertebrates in leaf litter like a sparrow. Ovenbirds are named for their domed, ground nests shaped like outdoor ovens, which the lady builds as a single unit! #BirdGlamour 🧪🐦

#BirdGlamour loves a brood parasite, and the Asian Emerald Cuckoo is gorgeous! Found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam, the females drop their eggs off in nests of Crimson Sunbirds and Little Spiderhunters!

A #BirdGlamour look for the Black-winged aka Black-shouldered Kite! Calling open grasslands in sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia home (and starting in Europe) these tiny raptors are owl-like with forward-facing eyes and zygodactyl feet! They are exceptional at hovering to hunt small rodents! 🧪🐡🐦

Look up - WAY UP - if you're in eastern North America! The Northern Parula (how do you pronounce it? It varies!) has also been spotted in CA and NM! Found in mature forests along streams, they like to put their nests in hanging Spanish moss, beard moss, or lace lichen 100 feet high! #BirdGlamour 🧪🐡🐦

Named from the bright yellow robes worn by papal clerks, Prothonotary Warblers nest in cavities in dead trees in southeastern North America. The brightest yellow males secure the best nest cavities. Bay-breasted Warblers bring #BirdGlamour while taking care of spruce budworm infestations in eastern North America! Bay-breasted Warblers aren't the only birdy spruce budworm predator (Cape May, Blackburnian, and Blackpoll Warblers) but they nest and forage lower than the other warblers. 🧪🐡🐦
