Okay, tomorrow’s task is to finish submitting the 50ish eBird checklists I haven’t submitted yet for the year for various reasons so I can be caught up for the year end stats. #birding #BirderProblems

Our county cleanup crew tallied 37 species over 8.5 hours for our section of the CBC today. They’ll be added to the rest of the groups’ totals at the tally party this evening, but I have to skip so I can catch a nap before another long night shift😭

Staring the #BigSit off right by leaving camera and binoculars at home! At least I have 4 fully charged camera batteries with me!🙃
(I do have some binoculars on hand, that we loan out, but really need mine which are better in low light.)

Trying to get some final scouting done and the weather keeps doing this. 😭

Today was gonna be a sleep and rest day because of the rain, but the weather is apparently dropping all kinds of shorbs all over the place (100+ Red Knots across the lake at Long Point!) so maybe tomorrow will be the sleep day😅 #BirderProblems

Nothing causes a tiff in a birder couple like eBird list reminiscing/review and discrepancies….and if lists differ between partners, oh golly! 😱

Screenshot of a 5 day forecast. Wednesday is partly cloudy with a high of 45°F. Thursday is partly sunny with a high of 48°F. Friday is partly sunny with a delightful high of 64°F. Saturday is mixed sun and thunderstorms with a high of 62°F. Sunday is rainy with a high of 57°F and then dropping down to 34°F because spring is a tease here.

I suspect our first “Why did you migrate here this early, you fool?!” Eastern Phoebe will arrive Friday or Saturday. Could be good hawk watching days here, too.

Also, guess which day I’m scheduled to lead a bird walk!😭 #BirderProblems #PAwx

Missed the first Snowy Owl on my patch this year. I suspect we’ll have more chances this winter, though. #BirderProblems

SOMEONE HAD A BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER ON MY PATCH THIS AFTERNOON AND DIDNT POST UNTIL THIS EVENING🤬

This Black-throated Blue Warbler male has managed to avoid every single patch of sunlight as it forages around our stream and garden. Jerk.

It’s “juvenile goldfinches looking & acting like fall warblers” season😭

I need to download today’s warbler photos & see if any of them are worth salvaging. Camera was having fits about focusing even though I was using spot focusing 😑 #BirderProblems

Had a great flock come in for ~20 minutes: Northern Parula, Blackburnian, Bay-breasted, Tennessee, Black-throated Green😊

I should’ve gotten more work done over the weekend so I could spend today birding😭 #BirderProblems #birds #fall #migration

A migratory group of 5 brilliant adult male Baltimore Orioles dropped into the backyard to our oriole feeders and I took ten seconds to grab my camera which was apparently the signal for the Coopers Hawk to strafe the yard😭

Thank you, Roseate Tern, for flying by when I could see you see. Now, please stay put so I can get a better look at you tomorrow when I’m properly prepared (ie have food and lots of water, and my boots) to make the sandy hike out to the point. 😅 #birds #birding #BirderProblems

Cornell Life List and Diary entry for Yellow-headed Blackbird. The date written in purple ink is June 26, 1996.

Location written in black ink says “Some where in Northern Wyoming.”

Under remarks, I wrote, “We were at a wildlife area overlooking a pond/marsh system. Saw several perched among the cattails singing and calling. Saw this around noon.”

Cornell Life List and Diary entry for Bullock’s Oriole. The entry has Bullock’s in quotation marks and underneath it says it’s a subspecies of Northern Oriole. I crossed it out and wrote Icterus bullockis underneath, indicating the recent at the time split of the two species.

“Somewhere in northern Wyoming” isn’t very narrow, Past Me😑

There we go, that’s better! Thanks, Past Me!😅

Today's highlight: being questioned as to the value of my scope by two unsavoury (and high) chavs. Wasn't robbed, this time. #birderproblems
