First full day on Barra, on what is our 24th year, provided a Barra tick in the shape of 2 Black Tern!
This takes me to 226 for the Isle.
Pretty quiet elsewhere though.

Presumed Turkestan Lesser Whitethroat (halimodendri) present for its 12th day on Barra. Strikingly sandy upperparts, extensive white in the tail and crucially a distinctive call similar to an outraged Blue Tit! Hopefully analysis of the poo sample I collected will prove it. #BirdingBarra
The American Golden Plover was still north of Barra airport this morning, hunkered down on the machair among the Goldies. Also both Ring-necked Ducks and 3 Scaup still on Loch na Doirlinn. #BirdingBarra
The #birdingBarra tag is already being picked up. That tag will get a post picked up by both the Birding Scotland Feed and the U.K. Birding Feed without those tags needing to also be added. If you want a post picked up by the Rare Birds U.K. Feed, it’ll need #rarebirdsUK included.
Castlebay, Barra weather for today. 15372 mph wind from the north east should bring few sibes in I would think #BirdingBarra ##BirdingScotland
I'm wondering if this is a potential Greenland redpoll at Creachan wood, Barra today. I'm looking especially at the 3 heavy dark lines on the flanks, the apparently heavy head & the extensive black bib & lores. I have no experience with rostrata so looking for advice #BirdingScotland #BirdingBarra
Week 3 of 4, and it's been a slog! Yesterday's highlight for me was 2 YBW. Today won't be much better as we are currently being battered with wind & rain!
But that's typically what #BirdingBarra is often like, long periods of nothing often with poor weather #BirdingScotland
There's always next year🤣
It's been pretty quiet so far AGP & Buff-breast aside, but at least 14 yellow-brows were scattered around the island per various observers today. #BirdingBarra #BirdingScotland
The juv American Goldie showed distantly today, I am now into double figures of this species on Barra, always nice to see though! #BirdingBarra ##BirdingScotland
A superb 1st for Barra in the shape of a Buff-breasted Sandpiper, thanks to the finders Richard Doan & David Wright.
Always on the radar from day one, but how on earth it took 23yrs is beyond me! #BirdingBarra #BirdingScotland #BirdingHebrides
A quiet day on Barra, although delighted to find a pied fly in Northbay Plantation, a place very few birders do regularly, but I just can't pass it without having a look!

Back on Barra for my 23rd autumn in a row, arrived a day earlier as planned in order to beat the oncoming storm, which is now hitting us!
1+ Leach's, 15 Stormies, 2 Bonxie, 1 Arctic Skua, 3 Manxie, c.10 Common Dolphin from ferry. #BirdingBarra #BirdingScotland #BirdingHebrides
