A swamp hen (NZ: pūkeko) and a smaller bird (maybe a juvenile swamp hen or moor hen?) grazing on the grass next to a footpath, while a greater egret stands on the pipe fence overlooking the stormwater drain. A stop sign, a left lane must turn left sign, traffic, and a petrol station in the background.
A closer look at the great egret on the pipe fence, overlooking the stormwater drain with bulrushes in it and a willow hanging down into it. By this stage the egret is starting to grumble (pretty sure it's telling us to fuck off!)
A swamp hen (NZ: pūkeko) grazing grass next to the road, while a little pied shag sits on the pipe fence overlooking a stormwater drain. In the drain you can see the back ends of two moor hens. Lots of bulrushes growing alongside the drain, and taro growing in it. Willows and other trees behind, a busy road to the left.
Walking back from Bibina to a bus stop, we came across this lovely bunch of birds around a storm water channel. Right next to the very busy Hillsborough Road.
"Birds of a feather", etc.
