This is the message RIGHT HERE! The #BlackVoterProject has tested messages about Trump as racist & anti-Black for YEARS. And, guess what, those messages work & are POWERFUL (esp w/Black people who are the targets)!

So, although polls right now have small samples, no surprise at her Black voter #s.

The “we” is doing A LOT of work here as it’s clear *certain* groups are less ready than others (race + gender matters too). In 2022 #BlackVoterProject research found that - while gender wasn’t the most important characteristic, behind race & age - Black voters actually PREFERRED a woman candidate.

Looking back, the #BlackVoterProject asked Black people their top issue priorities before the 2024 election…and while they emphasized the economy & healthcare, they ALSO prioritized civil rights/reproductive rights AND there were noticeable differences within the Black community itself!

When #BlackVoterProject asked Black people who they want to as future Dem candidates they are ready & willing to get behind young, bright Black politicians. The blueprint is there for Dems to win elections where Black people can make a difference, they just need to elevate their bright young talent.

Wanna know how to depress Black political enthusiasm even further? This is it…

As expected, 11% of Black people rated Trump highly favorable in a post-election #BlackVoterProject. When asked about Musk, he received the EXACT SAME amount of support (or lack thereof) - only 11% rated him fav as well.

As a reminder, if you want to know what Black Americans really think about politics & society, the #BlackVoterProject surveys include years of data with nationally representative Black samples of over 2,000 individuals, some even surveying the same people over time.

We Dug Into the Polls. Democrats in Congress Should Be Very Afraid. Democratic voters are even angrier than you think.

It’s worrisome that #BlackVoterProject shows similar trends for Black Americans, Dems most ardent supporters. When asked about confidence in Dems over time, what was once growing confidence has plummeted since Nov.

% Extremely Confident-
March: 41%
Oct: 49%
Dec: 39%

This finding is NOT accurate for Black voters, and while Dems have work to do w/Black voters under 50 (esp Black men), #BlackVoterProject shows there’s no “major” shift.

It seems the support reported here for Trump w/young people is primarily driven by young white and (most recently) Latino voters…

Also, while interesting, this is likely the results of younger voters trending more for Trump (another finding in the article) - #BlackVoterProject shows this to be the case for Black Americans.

Even as few report using TikTok for political info compared to other platforms, users do trend younger…

When it comes to Black people, trans rights are NOT an issue that’s moving them AT ALL. When the #BlackVoterProject asked Black people about this, 46% approved of Harris’s policy toward trans rights (21% disapproved; 28% DK) & <1% said trans rights were an important issue going forward…

Sac State professor’s new study finds Black men did not move from Democratic Party to Trump Christopher Towler’s recent 2024 Black Voter Project disputes narratives that emerged after the election and presents a better analysis of Black public opinion.

So much to discuss in the latest #BlackVoterProject post-election survey & this great #SacState article offers a bit of insight into how the larger project came to be - and, again, puts an end to the notion that Black voters supported Trump in any significant way.

If we’re being honest, Black people (especially Black women) feel burnt out. #BlackVoterProject finds that 43% say another go-around w/Trump will prove exhausting & they just want to be left alone - a whole 51% of Black women feel this way!

Dems need to put in REAL work w/Black voters going forward

Came across this interesting Tufts survey but with ~300 Black respondents this survey only scratches the surface.

#BlackVoterProject results have close to 30% of Black 18-29 yo reporting they voted for Trump - driven by young Black men. So, there is a there there…

Feels like Dems are light-years behind: #BlackVoterProject shows Black voters get their political info from TV & online/social media (mostly Facebook). Don’t really use or TRUST emails/texts.

But guess how most report being contacted during election: email & text…

Plus, with small sub-group samples for Black/Latino voters…I’m not convinced these results accurately represent their attitudes. According to Dec. #BlackVoterProject <20% of Black people approve of Trump & majority (56%) disapprove of Trump’s deportation (14% DK) & only small minority approve (26%).

In case you’re interested in Black public opinion #BlackVoterProject measured attitudes toward Trump throughout the election, polling the SAME people over time.

Total % rate Trump 8-10 (10 pt feeling therm scale):
April: 16%
Aug: 11%
Oct: 13%
Dec: 11%

Dems best chance is to mobilize Black voters…

We can’t expect WWC voters just turn progressive again, so Dems are going to have to work EXTREMELY hard to mobilize Black voters & rebuild their base.

With Harris Black voters saw the Dem Party as more welcoming to Black people but that trend quickly reversed after the election.

Analysis | The 12 Democrats who make the most sense for 2028 There’s a vacuum atop an adrift Democratic Party. Here’s who could fill it.

For the record, when the #BlackVoterProject surveyed Black people in Dec. about their preferences, the top three candidate characteristics were: (1) a Black candidate, (2) younger in age, and (3) highly educated. Do with that what you will…

According to #BlackVoterProject data: 46% of Black people saw #Project2025 as extremely threatening. That jumped to 61% when asked specifically about Trump banning Black studies. Among unlikely voters, 27% saw #Project2025 extremely threatening compared to 64% when asked about banning Black studies.

Also, the AtlasIntel data shows Black respondents report the most important challenge facing the U.S. was "Immigration” - other research (including #BlackVoterProject) shows immigration is NOT a top priority for Black Americans and almost always falls toward the bottom of the policy list when asked.

To start, no other data shows Black approval of Trump above 50% - let alone at 68% as Atlas Intel results show (higher than both whites & Latinos).

In my post-election #BlackVoterProject national survey (fielded in Dec) only 11% of Black respondents rated Trump 8-10 on a 10 pt. feeling thermometer…

If Dems want to increase Black turnout, they need to lean into this fight & take a stand against the attacks on Civil Rights that are sure to keep coming.

According to #BlackVoterProject data Black voters named Civil Rights as one of the top three issues that the next Dem candidate must prioritize.

Dems should be careful here. Black voters always showed more support for Biden & w/low Black turnout, turning their back on him now may hurt more than it helps.

#BlackVoterProject data has the % with high Biden fav increasing once he passed the reins to Harris:
48% (Mar) -> 51% (Aug) -> 53% (Oct)

Even if Harris talked about it a lot, it seems the message didn’t make it to less engaged Black voters who she really needed to turnout.

#BlackVoterProject data shows that while 17% of Likely Voters “Didn’t know” about #Project2025, that jumps up to 55% among Black people who didn’t plan to vote.

Even if Harris talked about it a lot, data suggests the message didn’t make it to less engaged Black voters who were needed to win.

#BlackVoterProject data shows that while only 17% of likely voters “Didn’t know” about #Project2025, that jumps up to 55% among Black people who didn’t plan to vote.

Longitudinal #BlackVoterProject data suggests that over half (52%) of Black people who were undecided/non-voters with Biden as the nominee decided to vote with Harris on the ticket, with the vast majority saying they will cast a vote for Harris.

A major reason why Dems switching to Harris mattered.
