My place
My place is in the light
Head held high and free
I have rights
My place is in the front
I am not a footnote
Lost to history
My place is where I wish
I refuse the chains
You would forge for me
My place is in battle
My voice is raised
My battle cry: Emma!

Grasping
Hold my hand
Fingers entwined
As the they grip tight
So my knuckles turn white
Exquisite pain
You let my hands go
I want your grip
You need them
To delight
I clutch the sheets
Twisting in place
Pinned aggressively
Wild, but consenting
Until I am spent

Circle of Life
Vines grow green
Taut stems, leaf covered
Latch to a trees trunk
White and yellow trumpets
Leak fragrance
Of sickly honeysuckle
Into the warm air
Necessary nutrients flow
Into the soil
From a shallow grave

Water
When I bathe
I am intruding
In an alien environment
When I shower
We share the space
Each part of the process
I am happy to give
My space and time
For a shared experience.

Bread
Fresh baked and crusty
Its fragance hangs in the air
Like a familiar flower
That feeds my senses
Fluffy white and warm
I smear it with butter
That melts, soaking deep
The taste in my mouth
Blooms with glee
As the sweet taste
And texture deliver delight

Enough
Vaulted ceilings
Risen from stone walls
Laden with decoration
Strong and rich
Gardens of grass
And ornamental shrubs
That meander like a maze
A world of rare delights
But I would live in cardboard
If you were here
Shrouding me with your arms
You are enough

Darkness Falls
When darkness falls
I will be lost to sight
But you can
Still find me
By my breath
Shallow though it be
Before it rasps with a touch
From tender ministrations.

No illusions
It walks the hardwood
Soft paws padding
Claws tapping
Tail held high
His head bumps me
Cheeks brush my hand
Whiskers bristling
As though he tastes me
The killer purrs
Fang like teeth
He loves me
Only because I’m bigger!

Ambition
A one-legged ballarina stood
Balanced on tiptoe
Arms held out straight
Does she pause
For fear of falling?
No
She is deciding
How high to jump

Blood is life
It seeps warm
Free flowing as it leaves
Scarlet red, and dark
The smell of iron is in the air
As it spreads across the floor
My eyes grow dim
As I watch nothing
And the wounds sting
As the feelings numb
As all things end
Blood is life
