I am 100% sure that this book is the reason why so many #boardwargames simulating a hypothetical (now #alternatehistory) NATO-Warsaw Pact conflict have been set in 1985, some literally referencing the 8/4/85 start date (like SPI's "Berlin '85").
When I was an active PC gamer - I've pretty much gone back to good old cardboard-and-paper #boardwargames - I always preferred turn-based strategy games for this very reason; they were much less dependent on frame rate except maybe in cutscenes.
McKay's Used Books in Manassas sells #boardwargames in addition to other #boardgames, but due to the nature of their business, it's literally a chance proposition what you'll find on any given day so you have to check at least once a week. That having been said, a couple of years back...

Thieves steal what they can spend or easily/profitably fence, and most customers of fences would laugh scornfully at the notion of paying more than a few dollars apiece for a board game. Even inside the hobby, comparatively few #boardwargames are worth more than $100-$150 a pop.
The ability to print #boardwargames in volume via U.S. shops at a reasonable price is pretty much totally gone, except for small print-on-demand outfits, so companies like @gmtgames.bsky.social MUST rely on overseas printers. Long gone are the days when Avalon Hill...
