Two points about the downed F-15 crew in Iran:
1. Hegseth threatened “no quarter” against Iran, making the situation worse for those downed fliers.
2. Media speculation that the fliers could be used as “hostages” is sloppy language. They'd be prisoners of war taken during combat. Not "hostages."

A building consensus among international law experts in the US and around the world that the US military is no longer abiding by its own historic LOAC standards and is not investigating or acting on violations of those standards. And that passes liability for violations to Hegseth and Trump.

Hegseth appears to be firing senior military leadership for refusing to insert ground troops into Iran without consent of Congress.
This isn’t just the stupidest move since McNamara, it’s also the most illegal.

Hegseth fired generals who insisted that military leaders who had demonstrated long records of exemplary service deserved promotion.

Judge Lin's injunction against Trump/Hegseth's supply-chain risk designation (under 10 USC 3252) took effect this morning, when 7-day stay ran out without govt seeking stay from 9th Circuit.
DC Cir still hasn't ruled on Hegseth's designation under the other statute: 41 USC 4713.

Apparently the reason Pete Hegseth purged the Pentagon of high ranking officers is because they refused to take Black people and women off promotion lists. I really don't want to know how much lower Hegseth can go.
