Case in point: When we look at the average 2016-2021 #lightning density, we can easily see #AnakKrakatau #HungaTongaHungaHaapai and #Bogoslof #volcano

The #Sentinel2 SWIR band 12 (2.2 µm) is shown as red in the above image. The island morphology is somewhat reminiscent of #Bogoslof (#Alaska) in 2017.
In the @smithsonian @NMNH Volcanoes of the World database, 11 recorded #eruptions (~0.1% of the total) have a #Halloween start date. #Kirishima (1566) is the first, others include #Grimsvotn, #Etna, #Bogoslof, #Ruapehu, #Bromo, #Villarrica, #Pacaya & #Manam (latest, in 2002).
#AKwx It would be really cool if someone in Unalaska could get video of #Bogoslof #lightning sometime www.useloom.com/share/6c35180e6da44aa693...
#Bogoslof erupted again today and had tons of #lightning when it did
SO2 emission from #Bogoslof on May 17 similar to Mar 8 eruption. Evidently still some magma lurking beneath the sea. http://sacs.aeronomie.be/nrt
Servicing the @michigantech WWLLN lightning antenna. Detects flashes 1000s of km away - incl. #Bogoslof eruptions
@NOAA GOES-15 and @NASANPP VIIRS provide timely detection of latest #Bogoslof #volcanic #eruption cloud.
Strong ash signal in latest IR sat data from #Bogoslof. Eruption cld be becoming more magmatic, w/ less external water @UWCIMSS @alaska_avo
#AKwx #Bogoslof #Volcano erupted again this morning and had a quick and impressive burst of #lightning. ~80 strokes symmetric around island
#AKwx #Bogoslof Quick count shows 88 strokes of #lightning detected in 90 minutes between 1922z and 2052z after #volcano eruption
Nice parallax effects in #Bogoslof #eruption clouds - effect increases with cloud altitude. MODIS (polar orbit) shows true cloud location.
Yesterday's #Bogoslof eruption captured by @NASA Terra MODIS ~30 minutes after onset. Bright, icy cloud top + gravity waves(?) & ash below.
Ongoing #Bogoslof #eruptions demonstrate need for multiple tools (seismic,satellites,infrasound,lightning) for effective #volcano monitoring
SO2 cloud from #Bogoslof #eruption over Cook Inlet and being drawn in to low pressure over the Gulf of Alaska (Dec 22, PM) @alaska_avo
