38 WBA Champions and Counting: Sanctioning Madness Spirals World Boxing News reports a new surge in World Boxing Association (WBA) champions, as the sanctioning body’s roster explodes from 36 to 38. Despite previous promises to limit belt proliferation, WBA President Gilberto Mendoza remains firm in maintaining multiple titleholders across divisions, including Super, Gold, and Interim belts. The two-title rise remains on trend with WBN coverage of the belt inflation over the last twelve months. By comparison, the WBC holds 26 champions — 18 in Bridgerweight and eight interim titleholders. The IBF has just 16 champions, leading the way in the one-champion-per-division model. The bantamweight title is the only vacancy, with Jose Salas and Landile Ngxeke set to fight on December 13. The WBO maintains 18 champions, with Callum Smith holding the only secondary belt. Against this backdrop, the WBA’s 38 titleholders clearly illustrate the chaos of belt proliferation in boxing governance. Current WBA Champions – November 2025 Heavyweight Oleksandr Usyk (Ukraine) – WBA Super World Kubrat Pulev (Bulgaria) – WBA World Fabio Wardley (UK) – Interim WBA Michael Hunter (USA) – WBA Gold Bridgerweight Muslim Gadzhimagomedov (Russia) – WBA World Georgiy Yunovidov (Russia) – Interim WBA Julio Cesar La Cruz (Cuba) – WBA Gold Cruiserweight Gilberto Ramirez (Mexico) – WBA Super World Light Heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (Russia) – WBA Super World David Benavidez (USA) – WBA World Albert Ramirez (Venezuela) – Interim WBA Super Middleweight Terence Crawford (USA) – WBA Super World Jose Armando Resendiz (Mexico) – Interim WBA Pavel Silyagin (Russia) – WBA Gold Middleweight Erislandy Lara (USA) – WBA World Vadim Tukov (Russia) – WBA Gold Super Welterweight Yoenis Tellez (Cuba) – Interim WBA Welterweight Rolando Romero (USA) – WBA World Super Lightweight Gary Antuanne Russell (USA) – WBA World Alessandro Riguccini (Italy) – Interim WBA Lightweight Gervonta Davis (USA) – WBA World Francisco Fonseca (Costa Rica) – WBA Gold Super Featherweight Lamont Roach Jr (USA) – WBA World James Dickens (UK) – Interim WBA Josue Francisco Aguero (Argentina) – WBA Gold Featherweight Nick Ball (UK) – WBA World Mirco Cuello (Argentina) – Interim WBA Super Bantamweight Naoya Inoue (Japan) – WBA Super World Bantamweight Antonio Vargas (USA) – WBA World Nonito Donaire (Philippines) – Interim WBA Muhammad Waseem (Pakistan) – WBA Gold Seiya Tsutsumi (Japan) – Champion in Recess Super Flyweight Jesse Rodriguez (USA) – WBA World David Jimenez (Costa Rica) – Interim WBA Elton Dharry (Guyana) – WBA Gold Flyweight Kenshiro Teraji (Japan) – WBA World Light Flyweight Kyosuke Takami (Japan) – WBA World Minimumweight Oscar Collazo (Puerto Rico) – WBA Super World Ryusei Matsumoto (Japan) – WBA World Wilfredo Mendez (Puerto Rico) – WBA Gold WBA’s Ongoing Belt Expansion The WBA continues to sanction multiple belts per division, fueling both opportunity and controversy. With 38 champions across all weight classes, fans and insiders alike are left asking: Is this championship proliferation sustainable, or has it spiraled out of control? There’s clearly a problem here despite the WBA’s assurances of reform. The organization claims to be a pioneer, but when it comes to titles, they appear to be the instigators of multiple sanctioning fees. AC Super Six Boxing League for Khomas Region launched  In a major development for Namibian boxing, AC Boxing Academy has officially launched the AC Super Six Boxing League, targeting grassroots talent in the Khomas Region.  This initiative is spearheaded by renowned promoter Imms Moses, who believes it is time to return to the roots and invest in developing the next generation of boxing champions. “This is how we groomed champions like Flame Nangolo, the current WBO Africa Super Featherweight champion, and rising stars like Harry Simon Jr.,” said Moses.  “We need to build from the ground up if we want to dominate the sport on the continent.” The league will feature boxers competing in the following six weight divisions: Welterweight, light welterweight, lightweight, featherweight, bantamweight and flyweight. Each participating club is allowed to register one boxer per weight category. The registration deadline is on 8 May 2025, while clubs must be in good standing with the Khomas Boxing Federation and must have fully paid their affiliation fees before the registration closes. “The AC Super Six promises to be a stepping stone for young boxers to rise through the ranks and make a name for themselves nationally and internationally. Stay tuned for more updates as the league unfolds,” Moses said.  The post AC Super Six Boxing League for Khomas Region launched  appeared first on The Namibian.
