An F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet is captured breaking the sound barrier, creating a visible cloud formation around it. This phenomenon, potentially caused by a pressure drop leading to condensation of moist air, is known as a Prandtl-Glauert Singularity. Similar effects are seen with large meteors and the Space Shuttle.

An F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet is pictured breaking the sound barrier, creating a visible condensation cloud around the aircraft. This phenomenon, also known as a sonic boom, is caused by the accumulation of sound waves as the plane surpasses the speed of sound. The image showcases the fascinating interaction of aerodynamics and atmospheric physics.
