I think this is one of my favourite photos I’ve taken so far. The Dragon Bravo fire is raging just out of frame while Plateau Point sits in enduring peace.

From a shadowed viewpoint in a valley (actually an earthquake fault) in which dusky-green trees and shrubs are just visible, we look out on a flat plateau, and beyond that, the sun is shining on a number of buttes. Through the clow clouds, another higher butte is just visible. Billowing clouds reach up into a blue sky. On this day in 2003 there was no sense that someone who could run multiple casinos into bankruptcy could possible become US President, nor that he could somehow be more ludicrously incompetent at that job than in operating casinos

A vivid daytime view of the Colorado River flowing through the Grand Canyon, seen from a sandy, rocky shoreline. The water is a striking blend of clear green and blue tones, with submerged rocks visible beneath the surface. Steep, rugged canyon walls rise dramatically on either side, their reddish-brown hues contrasting with the deep blue sky overhead. Sparse desert vegetation clings to the banks and slopes, adding touches of green to the arid landscape. Distant canyon formations are faintly visible in the background, layered in soft purples and browns.
The signs say, “Going down is optional. Coming back up is mandatory.”
By the time we reached the bottom, we got it.
100° heat, canyon walls radiating sun, and finally — the Colorado River.

The Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon.
Like you it was a long walk down to the river and back on the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon. We started at 4:30 am and returned back to the top at 7 pm. Those last switchbacks were a killer. #hiking #grandcanyon #brightangeltrail #photography
The brown waters of the Colorado River (due to a sediment release from the dam upstream at Page) are in the foreground curving around a bend. On the left bank (north) are outbuildings of the ranger station. On the right bank, the cliffs of the Inner gorge rise up near vertically. In the distance, the Black Suspension Bridge can be seen crossing the river. Beyond it, the walls of the canyon rise up. And beyond it, the walls of temple formations.
