We found these mud pots just past Fairy Falls, and somehow… no one else did. A rare moment of actual solitude in the park, which made the bubbling, burping earth feel like our own personal show.
What’s your favorite unexpected spot in a busy park?

A grizzly bear grazes on a lush green meadow near a stream, partially shaded by a pine tree in a peaceful wilderness scene.
A young mule deer stands alert on rocky terrain with sparse vegetation, its large ears perked and gaze turned over its shoulder.
A baby bison leaps beside its mother as a herd grazes on a sloped grassy hillside, with a dark, dramatic sky looming in the distance.
A moose with a patchy coat stands beside a gravel path in a forest clearing, surrounded by tall pine trees and spring growth.
The 7 most huggable animals we saw in Yellowstone… sadly zero of whom wanted to be hugged.

A tall column of white steam and water erupts from Grand Geyser in Yellowstone National Park. Dense mist surrounds the geyser, with pine trees and a rocky hillside in the background.
One of the few times a day Grand Geyser goes off, and we showed up right then. It felt like Yellowstone welcoming us in.

A bison grazes near the edge of a forest with tall pine trees in Yellowstone National Park. Wisps of steam or mist rise from the ground in the foreground.
🚨 ALERT: This is now officially a bison stan account 🚨
They're impossibly friend-shaped, so, so, fluffy, yet manage to look both huggable and majestic wandering through Yellowstone.
This was just the beginning of some of the incredible wildlife we saw.

A calm mangrove-lined waterway at Curry Hammock State Park in Florida. The blue sky and scattered clouds reflect perfectly on the still surface of the water. The shoreline is dense with green mangroves, and the overall scene feels peaceful and still.
The mangroves at Curry Hammock felt like their own little world — still water, quiet paddles, flashes of life below the surface.
Everything moved slower like the water was asking us to pay attention.

A rocky summit ridge along the 10-Mile Range in Summit County, Colorado. Jagged boulders frame the foreground with steep drop-offs on either side. In the distance, multiple ridgelines and peaks fade into the hazy blue horizon under a clear sky.
Traversing the 10-Mile Range was one of the most technical hikes we’ve ever done. It was full of scrambles, narrow ridges, and jaw-dropping views.

Interior view of the Gaylord Opryland Resort. A large glass atrium ceiling arches above tropical trees and garden pathways. A gazebo covered in flowers sits in the center. Hanging overhead is a massive red treble clef framed in a decorative circular light display.
We didn’t plan to visit the Gaylord Opryland — a barista recommended it, and we figured, why not?
Tropical gardens, indoor rivers, and the occasional lost conference-goer. It was unexpectedly peaceful and very much our vibe.

A wide view of layered mountain ridgelines in Great Smoky Mountains National Park at sunrise. Warm orange and pink light glows above a sea of low clouds stretching between the peaks. The foreground is dark and blue with silhouetted hills.
We made a few attempts before catching Kuwohi at just the right moment: sunrise breaking with clouds along the ridgelines unfolding like waves.
(Pro tip: the best views aren’t from the crowded observation deck. Stay near the lot.)

A wide-angle sunset view of Horseshoe Bend in Arizona, where the Colorado River makes a dramatic U-shaped curve around a towering rock formation. The sun is just above the horizon, casting a golden glow that silhouettes the canyon walls and reflects softly on the calm river below. The steep cliffs frame the scene, with textured rock faces glowing in the last light of day. The sky transitions from deep blue at the top to warm hues of yellow and orange near the horizon, creating a serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere.
As the sun dipped behind the cliffs, we made it to the edge.
Horseshoe Bend can get busy, but once you're gazing at the river below, following its bend like a mark from history, the crowd fades away.

A vivid daytime view of the Colorado River flowing through the Grand Canyon, seen from a sandy, rocky shoreline. The water is a striking blend of clear green and blue tones, with submerged rocks visible beneath the surface. Steep, rugged canyon walls rise dramatically on either side, their reddish-brown hues contrasting with the deep blue sky overhead. Sparse desert vegetation clings to the banks and slopes, adding touches of green to the arid landscape. Distant canyon formations are faintly visible in the background, layered in soft purples and browns.
The signs say, “Going down is optional. Coming back up is mandatory.”
By the time we reached the bottom, we got it.
100° heat, canyon walls radiating sun, and finally — the Colorado River.

The Hao Travelers pose in front of the iconic Southernmost Point buoy in Key West, Florida. The large, brightly painted concrete marker stands against a backdrop of turquoise ocean and clear blue sky. The buoy is striped in red, black, yellow, and white and reads “90 Miles to Cuba – Southernmost Point – Continental U.S.A. – Key West FL, Home of the Sunset.” Nongchao wears a red shirt and dark shorts, and Mitchell wears a dark shirt and gray shorts, both looking relaxed and happy in the tropical setting.
We made it to the Southernmost Point but were still not done exploring.
What's not to love about Key West when there are drag shows, art galleries, treasure stores, and key lime pie!?

A clear night sky filled with countless stars and the dense, luminous band of the Milky Way galaxy stretching diagonally across the frame. The foreground is silhouetted by the outlines of trees and rolling hills, creating a striking contrast against the expansive cosmos. Subtle hues of green and purple tint the sky, highlighting the depth and texture of the galactic core.
We always time our San Juan Valley trips with the new moon — the stars hit differently there.
This was taken at Black Canyon of the Gunnison, one of our favorite Dark Sky parks.

Wide-angle view of the Grand Canyon on a clear day, showing layers of immense, rugged rock formations in deep reds, purples, and earth tones stretching to the horizon. Jagged cliffs and mesas create a dramatic, almost otherworldly landscape that conveys the canyon’s vast scale and geological complexity.
I thought I understood “vast” until I stood there. The Grand Canyon doesn’t just stretch across the earth—it reshapes your sense of scale. #Stunday

When your motion-sick partner says, “I’ll try one coaster,” you pick the one that was once the fastest wooden coaster in the world. 🤭

A rocky creek flows gently through a forested section of the Alum Cave Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Fallen leaves scatter across the stones and shallow water, while slender trees with early autumn foliage lean inward, forming a canopy of gold and green. Dense rhododendron shrubs frame the path, hinting at the trail’s ascent toward Mount LeConte and Myrtle Point. The scene feels peaceful, wild, and quietly majestic.
Golden leaves underfoot. A cold stream winds through the forest. Mist rises where the sun touches the trees.
Fall in the Smokies is something special to behold.

A view of the smooth, swirling sandstone walls inside Antelope Canyon in Arizona. The rock formations display rich hues of orange, brown, and mauve. Sunlight filters in from above and casts an ethereal glow, highlighting soft curves and striations. A faint blue tint appears where the light hits the rock at certain angles, creating a surreal, painterly effect.
We stepped into Antelope Canyon just as the sun hit its prime angle, with shadows shifting from red to violet to gold.
While it’s incredibly photogenic, it felt more like a place to experience than to capture.

There’s a trail of photos behind us that still makes us smile, breathe a little deeper, and remind us of our place in the universe.
We’re sharing those moments — and a few new ones along the way.
Some national parks. Some side quests. To us, all travel is good travel. Let's go!
