π Bronze mannikin (Spermestes cucullata) The bronze mannikin, also known as the bronze munia, is a small, compact finch, with a blackish head, grey bill, and brown upperparts. Its white underparts have brown barring on the flanks. A key feature is the darker, iridescent patch on the upper wing feathers. This gregarious bird is widespread across sub-Saharan Africa in grassy areas, open woodlands, and gardens. Bronze mannikins are often seen in flocks, foraging mainly on seeds and occasionally insects. They build ball-shaped nests, sometimes near wasp nests, and both parents care for the young. Two subspecies are recognised. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) π·: Photo by jeanvdmeulen via Pixabay https://pixabay.com/photos/bronze-mannikin-bird-avian-nature-3607636/ LIOU
