In response to President Carter’s announcement to sunset the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and discontinue the programming and services offered by the Center for Belonging and Social Change at The Ohio State University, we want to make it clear to our members and the DMV community that OSUDC is committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by actively engaging in initiatives and events that promote DEI. We are also deeply troubled by the lack of communication given by the administration regarding these decisions, especially to students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
As a reminder, DEI programs were created to help communities that have historically faced obstacles in education and employment and these programs go far beyond leveling the playing field for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities; they also benefit white women, veterans, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities. We will be working with OSUAA in the coming days to determine the impacts of these decisions on alumni clubs. In the meantime, we urge you to stay informed and engaged with OSUDC on social media (@OSUDC on all platforms), support and donate to our friends in the Black Alumni Society (@osubasociety), and sign up for BAS’s community call to discuss next steps.
