@nickoloffoff.bsky.social, good to see Everett Brandt in your article

I met him Nov 2018 (the year he did his FKT on @hikethebt.bsky.social #BuckeyeTrail )
fastestknowntime.com/fkt/everett-...

He was kind enough to invite me to his home and give me backpacking gear advice before my 2019 PCT trip

Map Updates

• (8/17/25) The BT has changed between Pts 25 and 27 due to a reroute through Richfield Heritage Preserve (RHP). The trail change was requested by the RHP Board to move the trail off the roads and through a wooded area. As a result of the change, Pt 26 has moved from its current location near the Lodge to a location about 300' NW. The length of the trail in the Medina Section increases by 0.3 mi. For CW distances, add 0.3 mi to the miles from Pt 26 and above, For CCW distances, add 0.3 mi to the miles from Pt 25 and below.

The weekend 8 yrs ago when I did my PB for hiking. At 62 y.o. I hiked 27 miles in 3 days with rain and heat in May. This was my best day. Crossed several 600' ridges twice that day. Had about 3000' elevation gain for the day. Over 3 days about 5k' gain. Not a bad stress test.

The Buckeye Trail Association, you might be interested to know that my wife was talking to someone today who just learned that #Ohio has a long trail going around the state — the Buckeye Trail.

They had only learned about Ohio’s long trail because of the press coverage about the Buckeye Trail possibly joining the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, Continental Trail, Florida Trail, North Country Trail, and others in becoming a National Scenic Trail.

https://www.nps.gov/subjects/nationaltrailssystem/national-scenic-trails.htm

The impact of the National Park Service Feasibility Study to determine the status of the Buckeye Trail i becoming a National Scenic Trail is already increasing awareness of Ohio’s #BuckeyeTrail.

Another day, another post. The long ago Piano steps in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. They were steep, sketchy and during Covid the rangers replaced them with better ones. Piano keys 88, steps were 89. This was on part of the Buckeye Trail.

What would a national designation mean for the Buckeye Trail? The Buckeye Trail could become a National Scenic Trail. The National Park Service is gauging support for the designation through a series of public meetings across the state.

Spanning over 1400 miles, Ohio's Buckeye Trail may soon become a National Scenic Trail! Check out our guide book, Follow the Blue Blazes 👉 www.ohioswallow.com/978082142121...

Statement from the Buckeye Trail Association

The Buckeye Trail Association (BTA) is thrilled to announce progress in its effort to secure National Scenic Trail (NST) designation for the 1,454-mile Buckeye Trail, which spans Ohio's diverse landscapes, connecting 47 counties and more than 100 communities
The National Park Service is now conducting a feasibility study-approved with bipartisan support Congress 2022—with public meetings slated for mid-January. Completion of the study is expected before the end of 2026.
National Scenic Trail designation would see the Buckeye Trail join an elite group of 11 existing trails, making the Buckeye Trail the 5th largest in the nation, the only circumferential trail, and the first trail to receive this designation since 2009. This recognition would unlock significant benefits, including increased federal support, enhanced visibility, and expanded opportunities for community and economic development across Ohio.
"Thanks to generations of BTA volunteers, staff, and a vast network of partners, Ohio's Buckeye Trail is already a force of nature," said Andrew Bashaw, Executive Director of the BTA, "National Scenic Trail status would ensure greater resources and recognition for our trail, enriching lives and fostering even greater volunteerism, sustainable tourism, and incomparable outdoor recreation opportunities around Ohio."
"This designation would recognize what we already know about the Buckeye Trail, that it's a premier hiking destination in the Midwest that offers unique opportunities to explore the entire state," added Ohio Department of Natural Resources Director Mary Mertz, "The loop around Ohio allows adventurers to visit our beautiful collection of state parks, wildlife areas, nature preserves, and forests."
