Two small piles of wood and bark pieces from the fallen tree, positioned under a spruce tree for shelter. The beetles are inside on pieces of wood, with more bits piled around to keep them secure if they want to.

The same spot, but now I've covered the piles with beetles inside with a spruce branch for extra shelter.

I snapped a few pics, then made a shelter next to the red beetle from a previous day. It can stay there to wait for actual warm weather or go off into the leaf litter if it prefers.
