π Pied butcherbird (Cracticus nigrogularis) The pied butcherbird is a striking medium-sized black and white bird, with a black hood, white collar, and a strong, hooked grey and black bill. It is found across most of mainland Australia in drier forests, woodlands, and often suburban areas. Pied butcherbirds are known for their beautiful, melodious fluting songs. They are also aggressive predators, feeding on insects, small reptiles, mammals, frogs, and birds, often impaling prey on thorns or forks in branches. They live in pairs or small family groups, holding territories year-round. Two subspecies are recognised. Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) π·: Photo by PMelrose via Pixabay https://pixabay.com/photos/pied-butcherbird-bird-avian-4868968/ DBUF
