#FridayFrocks #ButtonsAndBows: a formal day gown of pink silk, c.1911-13. The large buttons are an attractive and fashionable feature. The star pattern has been hand-embroidered.
#FridayFrocks – This week for #ButtonsAndBows we have some beautiful, enamelled bee buttons which fasten a striking coat dress,1972, by Bill Gibb. The bee was Gibb’s signature motif from 1970 to 1980, and it crops up in many of his designs.
#FridayFrocks – A beautiful soft ballet-shoe pink bow for #ButtonsAndBows this week at it’s St #Valentine’s day. This couture cocktail gown by Lanvin-Castillo, c.1953 – 1957 is made from the silk chiffon and satin.
#FridayFrocks – #ButtonsAndBows: ‘Gold nugget’ buttons adorn a classically tailored 1940s skirt suit by American designer Hattie Carnegie. She later designed uniforms for the United States women’s army corps.
#FridayFrocks – For #ButtonsAndBows this week we have a dramatic example of a bow. This Jean Louis Scherrer evening gown, c.1985, is made from silk taffeta. During the ‘80s Scherrer’s work was known for its opulence and luxury. That’s very much in evidence here.
#FridayFrocks – This week for #ButtonsAndBows we focus on buttons. A dove-grey man’s dress suit, c.1780 – 88. Each button is embroidered using tambour work with a tiny pink rosebud. It’s done with a small metal hook; creating lines of chainstitch.
#FridayFrocks – Here for our #ButtonsAndBows theme is a stylish skirt and blouse ensemble of synthetic crêpe, c.1972. The outsize ‘Pussycat bow’ is a striking feature. ‘Maxi’ skirts became fashionable at the end of the ‘60s, continuing to find favour during the early ‘70s.
#FridayFrocks – Continuing with #ButtonsAndBows, these striking buttons adorn the front of a ‘theatre coat’, c.1910-1912, attributed to the pioneering fashion designer Paul #Poiret. Typical of his distinctively bold style, they are hand embroidered with colourful silk threads.
