60 years ago today the Byrds released one of their greatest recordings. Eight Miles High, originally a Gene Clark song, saw both McGuinn and Crosby being influenced by Ravi Shankar and John Coltrane. They added the song's raga guitar sound and drony harmonies which pioneered psychedelia.
