Last week we asked you to guess what this was… 🔎
Here we see the Experimental Linac for Surface Analysis (ELISA), a compact proton accelerator built for exhibition in #CERNScienceGateway – the only one that is ready for demonstrations to the public.
Can you guess what this is?
Hint: it’s located at #CERNScienceGateway.
We’ll share the answer on Monday.

Today’s #PhotoOfTheWeek takes us to #CERNScienceGateway.
From public events and science shows, to hands-on experiments and exhibitions, Science Gateway has something for everyone, from ages five and up. It is open six days a week (Tuesday – Sunday) with activities running from 9.00 to 17.00.
A young man and woman are standing indoors, smiling at the camera. The man on the left has short curly hair and is wearing a black leather jacket over a light gray hoodie, along with a black crossbody bag. The woman on the right has shoulder-length dark brown hair and is dressed in a black puffer jacket. They are in a bright, modern indoor space with large glass windows and doors in the background - the lobby of CERn Science Gateway - allowing natural light to enter. Several people are visible behind them, including individuals engaged in conversation and walking through the entrance. There is also a red structure in the background, representing a particle detector.
#CERNScienceGateway welcomes its 500 000th visitor 🫡
Damian (left) offered a two-day trip to Geneva, Switzerland, to Saira (right), with an obligatory stop at Science Gateway. He is an Architecture student, she studies Mathematics, and both were excited to #DiscoverCERN.
