From the archives with Aidan Knight 50 years ago The Express, March 19, 1976 Churchill hopes dashed CHURCHILL Citizens Association, which has been trying to obtain a high-technical secondary school for the area for three years during election week to get a firm “yes”. Instead, they got a firm “no” … from the local Liberal candidate in tomorrow’s poll. Liberal candidate Frank Hall told the association: “you’re not going to get one”. Asked how the matter arose, Association member Ross Ollquist said a letter had been sent to Education Minister Thompson on March 5. Thompson had told the Association a school would be built in Churchill “when and if the need was demonstrated”. Mr Hall said there was no hope because students numbers were falling at Maryvale and Morwell high schools. 30 years ago The Express, March 19, 1996 Pay TV hook up GIPPSLAND was hooked up to Pay TV last Thursday with the official launch of CETV’s satellite TV system. CETV’s communications manager Ross Thornton said all Gippslanders, even in the most outlying districts, would be able to access Pay TV regardless of where they lived. Mr Thornton said Victoria was the first state in Australia to have full coverage for satellite Pay TV. 10 years ago The Express, March 17, 2015 Little relief TRARALGON motorists have experienced little relief, with fuel prices remaining consistently high over the past month. Data from the RACV shows for the seven-day period ending Tuesday, motorists paid an average of 119.5 cents per litre. This was down just 0.3 cents per litre from the previous week. Moe residents paid an average of 117.5 cents per litre at the pump, while Morwell drivers averaged 115.6 cents per litre. The Victorian regional average was 112.0 cents per litre, 7.5 cents per litre cheaper than Traralgon’s average. The highest recorded price across the state was Koo Wee Rup with 120.7 cents per litre, while the lowest was found in Bairnsdale at 100.8 cents per litre.
