When someone dies, a child’s sense of safety can be rocked. If you can, try to keep to a normal routine, which will make them feel safe, and keep them informed about plans for the day ahead, including when you will be home and who will be looking after them.

As for baby, she'll never know her older sister or oldest brother but we'll try our best to wrap her in their love & share memories of how much Isabelle adored her. We have no navigation & F asks questions which catch us off guard. But all we can do as parents is our best. #cgaw

He loves looking at photos & videos & they make him laugh, but also invite him to ask questions & make statements like "Mummy Isabelle can't come back, she died, I know you are sad about it" ; "is she still at the mortuary? The hospital?", so fluctuates between understanding and not. #cgaw

He's very matter of fact about how he processes it. We were careful to use clear words like 'he died'; 'her body stopped working'; she had a poorly heart (because explaining mitochondrial disease is beyond us right now!). He takes their beloved Peter and Flopsy to bed. #cgaw

It's children's grief awareness week. Today this memory of F was on my phone. I don't recognise the person who took it. It's a mere few weeks before all our lives changed.I wish I could protect him from the pain that was about to unfold. And that would again 2 years later. #cgaw
