I attended #CMIP2026 in Kyoto in March. Among the presentations I saw, many focused on extreme events such as heavy precipitation, drought, and heatwaves, as well as their compound impacts.
This is the hall where the Kyoto Protocol was signed. It’s impossible not to feel the weight of history and the juxtaposition to current anti-science sentiment. Last week’s CMIP meeting lived up to that legacy—well-organized & rigorous. Perfect blend of historic significance and vision. #CMIP2026

Still working out the kinks and focused on CMIP6, but will expand for CMIP7.

somewhat against my better judgement, I signed up for remote attendance for the #CMIP2026 conference starting in two hours (in Japan). It runs 8pm to 4am (NY time) for the next week. People trying to get anything from me over this period are going to be disappointed. 🤷
