#COP24Med just adopted its 15 Decisions, including on compliance&reporting, governance, Med. Strat. for #SustDev, upgraded Ecosystem Approach Policy, Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance, and marine pollution from ships. The Cairo Ministerial Declaration was adopted yesterday.

Women delegates at #COP24Med gathered for a Women Leaders Dinner, hosted by Egypt and co-organized with UNEP/MAP. Tatjana Hema recounted how this tradition started at COP 22, making space for women leaders to meet and share their unique perspectives and experiences.
At #COP24Med, the 2025 Istanbul Environment Friendly City Award was awarded to the city of Almería, Spain. The Award, funded by Türkiye and established under the MAP/Barcelona Convention system, recognizes coastal cities for their efforts in #SustainableDevelopment and env. protection. @unep.org
At the end of today's Ministerial Session, #COP24Med adopted its Cairo Ministerial Declaration, which reaffirms the Mediterranean countries' shared commitment to the conservation and sustainable use of the Mediterranean Sea and coastal areas. This "landmark moment" evoked a standing ovation.

#COP24Med reached consensus on specific text for the draft Cairo Ministerial Declaration, reflecting solidarity and cooperation, and recognizing respective national circumstances and capabilities as well as the need for enhanced support from all sources.
The drafting group at #COP24Med spent considerable time discussing the Progr of Work and Budget. A draft was presented in Plenary, including no increases in contributions for 2026-2027 and a more specific breakdown of funding and contributions. The draft was forwarded to Friday's Plenary session.
At #COP24Med, on the Regional Activity Centre on Climate Change, OceanCare recalled countries' commitment to decarbonization voiced at COP23. He drew attention to the recent study that predicts that at current emission rates, the Mediterranean's Remaining Carbon Budget will be exhausted by 2035.
#COP24Med also addressed its Updated Offshore Action Plan 2026-2035, part of the Offshore Protocol. There was a strong call for a programme officer dedicated to the Protocol's implementation at REMPEC, but delegates flagged funding constraints. #Mediterranean #sustainability @unep.org
