More housing = lower rents for everyone
The only way out of the #CThousingcrisis is to build our ass off. The goal should be to 5x our current building rate, we are short 250,000 homes in Connecticut alone
Building at present 5k homes per year = a perpetual simmering crisis
By passing such a transformative statewide residential Parking Reform, Connecticut's leaders are making a clear statement that the #CTHousingCrisis needs to end and they're willing to pass the policy necessary to do so
We're thrilled to see the widespread support from all corners of our state!
It's officially September and still no word from Governor Lamont about taking action on the festering #CTHousingCrisis
Tell Ned its time to act, sign and send the We Need More Homes petition today!

You don't get to claim victimhood when you use your discretionary power to block new housing *that complies with the zoning code you passed*
This Westport project is such a microcosm view into the #CTHousingCrisis:
1. New zoning passed by P&Z board
2. Project confirmed to comply
3. Denied by P&Z 👋

Awesome New Haven Union Station adjacent housing project announced today bringing 470 desperately needed homes to our state
There are more homes in this single project than 154 of our 169 towns permitted in the 5 years from 2019-2023. #LocalControl #CTHousingCrisis
Google map satellite view of UConn's campus, Stamford health, and single family neighborhoods
UConn Stamford has 1-family only neighborhoods w) 30 ft height limits less than 2k ft to the west, in a neighborhood that hosts Stamford Hospital that employs over 2,500 people!
Absolute lunacy, of course home prices are spiking and competition is leaving people people left behind

Zillow Screenshot showing the homes for sale in the Hartford region as 315 total. The screening filtered out land/lots (for lack of home existing) and multifamily (to avoid becoming a landlord which most people don't want to do)
Here in the peak of spring home selling market, the Greater Hartford area with a population of about 625k (based on the radius I drew) has exactly 315 homes available to purchase total this Easter weekend
Total imbalance, there is no way out except for more supply

#CTHousingCrisis is reaching unimagined levels
Generic suburban large McMansion tract homes in Glastonbury are now selling for over a million dollars and hundreds of thousands over asking after fierce bidding wars

Hartford's housing inventory down 80% in 5 years. There is no way out without building our way out

If you make the median family income in Connecticut ($91k) you would be able to purchase the following in Greenwich CT:
1) A 500 square foot 1-br condo
2) Up to two boat slips
The condo was built in 1956 and it would not be legal to build this same building today in Greenwich

Yes it is absolutely fucking brutal out here
It is hard to believe that this home is illegal to build in over 90% of Connecticut
What are we even doing here? It is adorable

Graph showing significant increase in housing cost in Connecticut compared to overall inflation
This very moment, there are 249 homes available for sale in Greater Hartford (excl multifam), a city/metro of approx. 600k people
There simply are not enough homes in existence, we need to BAEP - Build Anything Everywhere Possible
#CTHousingCrisis
There are only 3,073 homes for sale in Connecticut with a list price at or under $600k (affordable to family making +/-$175k…)
In a state of 3.6M, this is crisis level housing supply. We need more homes

A committee of people who already have homes blocked 13 free standing smaller lot "starter homes" under the justification that it would be unsafe to have a very low volume street near a slightly higher volume street

Thank you @jrojas9 @RepKavrosDeGraw @MDRahmanCT @senatorduff and all others for fighting and winning difficult housing victories this session!
I will remember 2024 as the year we began to seriously address the #CTHousingCrisis. The fight isn't over but thrilled at the progress!
