My bf does a survey every week for the Catalan Butterfly Monitoring Scheme, and yesterday he snapped these beauties: a green hairstreak, and a brimstone. Aren't they pretty!

A green hairstreak. The butterfly is facing left, but its head is turned away from the camera. As a result, the eye is barely visible and one of the antennae can be seen. It is alternating white and black up to very near the tip, where it turns all black with a small orange spot at the tip. The wings, which are closed, are a brilliant green with light brown edging with a line of small white dots just to the right of the center of the wing. It is perched atop a small blade of grass.
