The tower of St Matthew-in-the-City punching into a mediocre sky through a canopy of trees, a rare respite in the city centre
Bit of a quiet Sunday with so many locals away. We had 8 ringers, including 2 visitors. We rang rounds 6 & 8, called changes, and Plain Bob & Grandsire Doubles.

The white Ōamaru stone church tower of St Matthew-in-the-City on a rainy night, accompanied by tree canopies, a welcome green respite in the commercial city centre.
We've had a busy start to the year up the tower & have rung: rounds, called changes, plain hunt, Plain Bob, Grandsire, Stedman, Reverse Canterbury, Canterbury Place, St Simon's Bob; and have rung on 6 and 8.
We've also had loads of visitors (you're always welcome)

18 June 2022: Today's highlight was intervening in a slight spat between two campanologists in the belfry of Llandaff cathedral by telling them "not to have a ding dong". Well, it made me laugh... #Llandaff #LlandaffCathedral #BellRinging #Bells #Campanology

Handrail above the bells at St Matthew-in-the-City lit with fairy lights & a big fuck off spotlight blasting the opposite wall for ambient light. The old frame is visible, below it are 4500 kg of angry metal (aka bells)
The tower above the bells at St Matthew-in-the-City. Adrian is walking across the beams, sure death waiting below (he's holding the wall). The fairy lights aren't up yet, but the fuck off spotlight is. Up here, there's no electricity to the tower, not windows. We have wooden louvres to let out sound and let in gale winds (much to my dislike).
The white Ōamaru stone church tower of St Matthew-in-the-City lit by the light pollution of the city, traffic lights giving it a serious red glow.
Tonight we ring out the old year & ring in the new one, with a short pause in the middle so our bellringers can watch the fireworks from the roof.
We've have been busy this week adding additional lighting above the bells so we can make safer progress up to the roof.

White Ōamaru stone church tower punching through the garden at St Matthew-in-the-City. The red flowers and green leaves contrast with the brilliant blue sky with just a wisp of cloud. A banana tree on the left has a large bunch of green fruit growing.

Wonderful morning of service ringing today. We had 9 and rang doubles of Stedman & Reverse Canterbury, Plain Hunt 7, and triples of Grandsire & Plain Bob.
The church garden is looking particularly lovely today, with a crop of bananas on the way!

Tower of St Matthew-in-the-City lit up for the carol service, lights shining out the stained glass windows. The tower and it's white Ōamaru stone sit bold against the blue night sky.
The St Matthew-in-the-City Christmas tree looking awfully green & bright & festive
The church interior looking from the Alter to the back where the Christmas tree is. The church masonry is white Ōamaru stone, the pews are a rich rimu brown with scarlet red velvet cushions, the rafters and ceiling are dark wood fading into black. The church is empty ahead of the carol service and well illuminated in white lights for now.
The church alter taken from the back of the church. The white Ōamaru stone is counter pointed by the pinky orange led accent lighting that medieval architects would've killed for.
Easily our favourite night of the year for bellringing! Bells, carols, & decorations, what's not to love?! 🔔
We had 12 tonight, including our two visitors from Honolulu. We rang 8 most of the night, but kept it simple (no thanks from the muggyness) 💕
