Capricorn backs police training on victim support Staff Writer  The Capricorn Foundation has donated N$300 000 to the Response Action Based Organisation (RABO),  which responds to cases of gender-based violence (GBV), suicide attempts, child abuse, and neglect. As a first responder, RABO  helps transport victims to hospitals, police stations, or social workers and refers them for long-term support. The head of the Capricorn Foundation, Veripura Muukua, said the Foundation supports RABO through its vulnerability focus area. “As part of its vulnerability focus area, the Capricorn Foundation is a long-term partner of the Response Action Based Organisation. We are proud of our partnership with RABO and that, through our collective effort, we can make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable by providing basic needs, supporting victims of gender-based violence and abuse, and holding community engagements and events on social issues,” she said. The donation follows last week, when RABO hosted a workshop for Khomas-based officers, sponsored by the Capricorn Foundation.  The session was led by senior social worker Selma Nangonya from the ministry of health and social services, senior social worker Clemencia Kavita from the ministry of gender equality and social welfare, and chief inspector Christiana, head of the gender-based violence victim subdivision. The workshop brought together 75 members of the Khomas Namibian Police Force to focus on peer learning and building capacity to better support victims of GBV, rape, and child abuse.  Police officers are often the first point of contact for victims and play a critical role in responding to these cases. The workshop aimed to improve their skills and interagency coordination. “Workshops like these offer a valuable opportunity to strengthen inter-agency collaboration, share practical tools, and affirm a joint commitment to the safety and dignity of all Namibians. We are grateful to the Capricorn Foundation for partnering with RABO on this initiative and for their continued support. The Capricorn Foundation has been essential in helping us reach many families, victims, and children. Although they cannot help everyone in need, they work hard to stretch their funds to assist as many people as possible, not just in Khomas but also in other areas. We are very thankful for their support,” said Zackary Itodo, RABO facilitator.

New investment from Capricorn Foundation tackles malnutrition Justicia Shipena The Capricorn Foundation has committed N$2 million to fight malnutrition in the country through two partnerships.  It will contribute N$600,000 to the Gondwana MealforTwo Programme and N$1.4 million to Genesis Namibia, focusing on the Omaheke Region. The Omaheke region has been hard hit by malnutrition.  In August last year, Governor Pijoo Nganate said the region recorded 30,219 malnutrition cases and over 800 deaths in two financial years.  In January of this year, the governor’s office and commercial farmers provided 21 goats to support nutrition efforts in the region. The Capricorn Foundation’s new support builds on an earlier partnership with Genesis Namibia.  In November last year, it launched a pilot project in the Omaheke region with an initial N$565,500.  The six-month initiative ran from December 2024 to May 2025.  It aimed to reach 500 children but ended up supporting 700 children and several adults.  It delivered 67,000 meals across eight soup kitchens in Gobabis, Otjinene, Drimiopsis, Witvlei, Donkerbos, and Epukiro. Following the success of the pilot, the foundation pledged an additional N$849,540 to Genesis Namibia.  The funding will target 1,000 malnourished children in Omaheke.  In total, the foundation has committed N$1.4 million to Genesis Namibia. “Genesis Namibia is grateful to the Capricorn Foundation for their unwavering commitment to feeding the children of Namibia. Together with the Office of the Governor of Omaheke and our dedicated communities, we are not just delivering meals; we are delivering hope. We are proud to be part of this life-changing initiative that brings dignity, care, and nourishment to our most vulnerable children,” said Genesis Namibia Managing Director Riaan van Zyl. Genesis Nutritional Products contains 13 vitamins, five minerals, 19 amino acids, omega-3 fatty acids, and five electrolytes.  The programme tracks the health of children through an electronic record system.  This helps monitor individual progress and increases referrals from soup kitchens and clinics. The foundation has also been a long-time supporter of the Gondwana Care Trust’s MealforTwo Programme.  The N$600,000 pledge will help provide 400,000 meals to 30 organisations, reaching nearly 8,000 vulnerable people.  The beneficiaries include orphanages, kindergartens, school hostels, and nursing homes. “We are proud of our partnership with Genesis Namibia and Gondwana Meal4Two and believe that our efforts will collectively contribute to the government’s call to fight poverty in Namibia,” said Marlize Horn, Executive Officer of the Capricorn Foundation. Quintin Hartung, Environmental and Social Impact Manager at Gondwana, welcomed the continued support.  “Together, we’ve now served over 1.6 million meals since 2017. This partnership is a shining example of what’s possible when we unite for lasting impact,” she said. Hartung added that the foundation and Bank Windhoek have supported the programme for years, helping set up sustainable gardens and funding meals that go beyond immediate aid. The Capricorn Foundation was established in February 2020 by the Capricorn Group. It is funded by Bank Windhoek, Capricorn Asset Management, and Entrepo. Over five years, it has invested N$40 million in social responsibility projects across the country.

Capricorn Foundation commits N$2m to address hunger The Capricorn Foundation has given N$2 million to two projects to address hunger and malnutrition across Namibia. According to the 2024 Global Hunger Index, Namibia suffers from a serious level of hunger, ranking 86th out of 121 countries. A food security assessment report by the agriculture ministry in February showed that at least 1.2 million Namibians are facing hunger. The Capricorn Foundation yesterday allocated N$600 000 to the Gondwana Meal4Two Programme, which provides nutritional meals across the country, and N$1.4 million to Genesis Namibia, which works in tackling malnutrition in the Omaheke region. Capricorn Foundation executive officer Marlize Horn said the efforts will contribute to the governments’ call to fight poverty in Namibia. She added that there is an urgent need for such interventions, with collaboration being key in achieving the desired goals. “We are proud of our partnership with Genesis Namibia and Gondwana Meal4Two and believe our efforts will collectively contribute to the government’s call to fight poverty in Namibia,” said Horn. The Meal4Two Programme is set to deliver 400 000 meals to 30 organisations, reaching nearly 8 000 of Namibia’s most vulnerable individuals, including those in orphanages, kindergartens, school hostels, and nursing homes. Previous support from the foundation included establishing sustainable gardens at beneficiary organisations, promoting long-term food security. Gondwana environmental and social impact manager Quintin Hartung said the programme has been able to provide 1.6 million meals since 2017. “This partnership is a shining example of what’s possible when we unite for lasting impact. Together, we’ve now served over 1.6 million meals since 2017,” said Hartung. Meanwhile, Genesis Namibia, which was launched in November 2024 to combat malnutrition in the Omaheke region, has been able to provide food to 700 children and several adults, providing 67 000 meals across eight soup kitchens at Gobabis, Otjinene, Drimiopsis, Witvlei, Donkerbos, and Epukiro. Initially, Capricorn Foundation committed N$565 500 for the six-month pilot, from December 2024 to May 2025, to support 500 children. However, after the success of the pilot project, Capricorn Foundation has now committed an additional N$849 540 to Genesis Namibia, bringing their total pledge to N$1.4 million. This new pledge aims to target 1 000 malnourished children in the Omaheke region. The post Capricorn Foundation commits N$2m to address hunger appeared first on The Namibian.
