#Amlodipine #Post14 β Uses β Amlodipine is used in the treatment of: β Angina (heart-related chest pain) β Hypertension (high blood pressure) β Arrhythmia β Hypertensive emergency β Subarachnoid haemorrhage β Anal fissure β How Works: β Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. β It relaxes blood vessels, helping to lower high blood pressure. β This improves blood flow throughout the body. β Reduced pressure and improved flow help relax the heart muscles. β It decreases the workload on the heart. β Improved oxygen supply helps prevent heart-related chest pain (angina). β Common Side Effects: β Headache β Nausea β Abdominal pain β Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk) β Dizziness β Palpitations β Edema (swelling) β Muscle cramp β Visual disturbance β Shortness of breath β Change in bowel habits β Weakness β Advice β You have been prescribed Amlodipine to improve your blood pressure and/or to reduce the number and severity of angina attacks. β Lowering blood pressure reduces the chance of future heart attack and stroke. β Take it at the same time every day to help you remember to take it. β A sudden drop in your blood pressure may occur, especially when you first start taking Amlodipine. β To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down. β It can cause ankle or foot swelling. β To reduce the swelling, raise your legs while you are sitting down. β Talk to your doctor if the swelling does not go away. β It may cause dizziness. β Do not drive or perform any activity that requires mental focus until you know how Amlodipine affects you. β Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding.
