The Waiohine River was a difficult river to cross in the Wairarapa often in flood. There was a toll bridge from 1872-1886, Mr A.J. Ordish lived in a shack near the bridge and collected tolls at this gate, paying Carterton Borough Council an annual lease for the privilege. #toll #bridge #Carterton
