#OnThisDay in 1984 – #ChicagoSting captured its 2nd #SoccerBowl trophy after defeating hosts #TorontoBlizzard, 3:2, in 2nd game & clinched #NASL Final Series, before 16,842 fans, at #Canada’s Varsity Stadium. Pato Margetic scored twice for #Chicago.
#OnThisDay in 1981 – 1st #NASL #SoccerBowl determined via shootout (SO) as #ChicagoSting defeated #NewYorkCosmos, 2:1, after a scoreless final, before a crowd of 36,971 at #Canada’s Exhibition Stadium. Rudy Glenn scored the winning tally in the SO for Chicago’s 1st championship.
When the #ChicagoSting began the 1977 NASL season with 4 wins in their first 14 games under coach #BillFoulkes (pictured at right), owner Lee Stern fired Foulkes and turned to his assistant, Willy Roy, who went 6-6 the rest of the way.
