Today is UN Chinese Language Day (联合国中文日) —a celebration of the Chinese language’s beauty, complexity, and cultural power. 🌏
April 20 was chosen to honor Cangjie, the legendary figure said to have created Chinese characters nearly 5,000 years ago.
Language lives. 中文 thrives. ✨

The bases of nineteen white porcelains, inscribed on the bases with black ink. The characters are predominantly common surnames along with the character 置 (Zhi), denoting procurement or ownership.
These porcelains, found in the Song-period (AD 960–1279) Nanhai I shipwreck in the South China Sea, are inscribed with Chinese characters #ChineseLanguageDay
The characters were likely merchants' names, distinguishing the goods of different traders. 🏺
