Simmie was in the sitting room men’s bathroom just before the presents were opened. He had a cigarette in his mouth and shook his leg. As he finished he heard someone enter and clear their throat. “Really Simmie? On Gift Day?” The voice sounded like Brinus. It was his baritone voice with a distinct raspy sound to it. “Do you have to love?” “How did you know it was me?” asked Simmie. “Because your cousins ain’t fuckin’ idiots. We open presents in ten minutes. If you insist on smoking I can get a vape when we get back. But you ain’t smoking cigarettes in my house.” Simmie remained silent. He tilted his head back and took a deep drag, letting the smoke out of his mouth. He heard an annoyed sigh and after a few moments of silence, the door closed. Ten minutes later Simmie came out of the bathroom to death glares from his family. The time was 7 a.m. sharp. The storm still raged so gift day holiday lights on the walls statute were lit with magic from Brinus. Everyone gathered around Tigs and held Hands. “On this day, the temple spirits made their revelation of magic to humanity. They taught us to manipulate physics with sleight of hand and bend reality to our will. May the Temple spirits bless us and keep us.” Everyone said in unison. “May the temple spirits Keep us and Save us from sin. May the Spirits keep us safe from our enemies.” Tigs Looked Directly at Simmie when he continued the prayer. “May the spirits save us from temptation and ourselves.” Everyone said in Unision, “Amen.” Tigs took his present first as patriarch. “This is from Brinus.” He tore off the white wrapping paper. It was a woodburning of Simmie’s mother.

Tigs is Simmie's Father. He also helped Brinus quit smoking in book two. This snippet is from my Christmas novel I am releasing on Inkitt and Royal Road this December.
