The majestic Bavarian Alps in Germany frame the Hohenschwangau Castle to create a storybook-like vision. Quiet, golden, and unforgettable, it's one of my most beautiful travel memories.

The adventure continues! Today, we explored the Greek temple ruins of Paestum, a once-thriving city on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The three well-preserved temples, dating from 550 to 450 BCE, are among the best examples of ancient Greek architecture outside of Greece.

Honoring #Stunday Grave markers, collected from around Ireland, were installed in St. Canice's, a 13th-century cathedral in Kilkenny, as a way to preserve & honor them. This site has been a place of Christian worship since the 6th century.

Taipei 101 in the distance, on an overcast day. Some say it looks like stacked upside-down Chinese takeout boxes. ๐Ÿฅก
Mostly, the Taiwanese don't love that comparison.

Another rainy day in #Taipei. Umbrellas everywhere. Something new: you can rent an umbrella for the day. All around the city.

Taipei is more than a big city. Today, we took the MRT to Beitou to visit the steaming (200ยฐ +) hot springs. But wait - there's more! A lovingly restored museum, historic bathhouses, and lush trails. Pouring rain made it a challenge, but we persevered!

We visited the National Palace Museum in Taipei. The museum was so interesting. Lunch at the Sanxitang Space restaurant inside the museum? Divine. Especially the honey cakes. I particularly liked the red yeast one. Delicious and so pretty!

These photos are from the very ornate
Anping Kai-Tai Mazu temple in Tainan, originally built in 1668, then rebuilt several times since. Mazu is the Chinese goddess of the sea and patron deity of fishermen and sailors.

Tree at Anping Old Fort. Tainan, Taiwan. The fort contains the remains of an old Dutch fort called Fort Zeelandia. The Dutch captured, then held, Anping for forty years beginning in 1624. Such a complex and fascinating history. #ChristineTravels

Ok, so this was pretty amazing. These little nuggets of deliciousness are breaded and fried fish in Korean BBQ sauce. With perfectly cooked green beans, sweet peppers, and baby corn. So good!

It doesn't look like much on the plate, but this Peking Duck, from the Celestial Restaurant, in Taipei, is little slices of heaven. Since I generally only eat fish, I decided to reclassify duck as a fish today.
๐Ÿ˜ So, Peking duckfish! Incredibly delicious.

Taiwan's lovely 228 Memorial Peace Park has a historic and varied past. Today, it was the site of numerous artists, with their sketch pads and watercolors, enjoying the beautiful weather. These birds were in a small lake in the park.

These photos were taken outside an MRT (subway) station in Taipei. The exterior areas are beautifully landscaped. If you look closely, you will see that the flowers on the trees are not there naturally. They are orchid plants wired to the trees!
