In response to an Instagram comment of mine critical of everyone complaining about snow clearing and extensive cost that would be associated with it (spelling mistakes are the original commentor): "here's some info that might make yoh realize why the majority of people are upset. In Nicaragua it takes them less than 48 hours to clear all roads and they have less than a budget than we do. In Ottawa they have the snow cleared in less than 24 hours and say that large snow piles are a 'risk' (due to emergency vehicles getting stuck which has happened in Edmonton lots). Let's look at what we do have. Edmonton is 120000 km in road to plow. If you get 40 plows (not an unreasonable number) to work 24/7 (like it is now apparently), and you had the trucks going 5KM to blade it, it would take 2.5 days which is shockingly close to other cities snow removal... huh. As many others have said property taxes have also gone up quite a bit. This isn't the first year we get snow, we should have a way better system than this, and last year seemed way better than this year with snow removal. And no Toronto and Montreal does not have half the road ways we do (although bigger budgets) thats not excuse for a city to be in disrepair in the winter because we cant use our 60 million budget for snow removal like it should be. There is a reason people are upset and we shouldn't have ambulances and school buses getting stuck in the snow or a mayor or blocks people from commenting to him. A little respect for your common human and how this effects them goes a long way before you throw a temper tantrum and tell people to just leave."
