A woman and man drinking from Lethe
@classicstober.bsky.social Day 30 of #ClassicsTober25: Lethe was one of the rivers of Hades. All those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness. The river was often associated with Lethe, the personification of forgetfulness & oblivion, the daughter of Eris (Strife). #ClassicsTober
@classicstober.bsky.social I don't understand why I haven't had #classicstober items in my timeline ... they clearly exist....
#Classicstober Day 29 - Mysteries 🌾✨
Not the spookiest piece but when I saw this prompt it reminded me of a paper I wrote in grad school about tiny votive figurines of girls holding piglets from Eleusis.
@classicstober.bsky.social Day 29 of #ClassicsTober25: Mysteries. The Eleusinian Mysteries were initiations held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone in Eleusis in ancient Greece. They are considered the "most famous of the secret religious rites of ancient Greece". #ClassicsTober
Classicstober day 28 - Deimos and Phobos @classicstober.bsky.social @mhairi-at-ou.bsky.social #classicstober25 #Classicstober
deimos and phobos were hungry for snacks
so deimos and phobos both ordered flapjacks
their platter was served to them covered in berries
so they took their leftovers back home to Ares
so proud to be in this year's #classicsTober
so sad to think that this month will be over
#ClassicsTober25
phobos and deimos went out for a walk
phobos dared deimos to swallow some chalk
deimos told phobos he rather would not
so phobos and deimos sailed off on a yacht

Clytemnestra tries to awaken the sleeping Erinyes. Detail from an Apulian red-figure bell-krater, 380–370 BC.
@classicstober.bsky.social Day 27 of #ClassicsTober25: The Erinyes were chthonic goddesses of vengeance in ancient Greek religion and mythology. Their Roman counterparts are the Furies, also known as the Dirae. #ClassicsTober
A flat coloured digital art piece of Isis holding her husband Osiris. Isis is a woman with tawny brown skin, and long dark brown hair. She's looking down with a mournful expression at Osiris whose head she's holding up with one hand. Her other hand is cupped with magic flowing from it to Osiris's mouth. Osiris is a man with dark sepia coloured skin who's wrapped in linen from his neck down. His eyes are closed and his mouth is slightly open. Both of them are wearing heavy eyeliner in the Ancient Egyptian style.

I've gotten really far behind on Classicstober, so I'm just going to try to finish the prompts I feel really inspired to do.
