Coeliac disease is isolating. If you have friends with it, be encouraging, help them call places to go eat. Ask about cross contamination, if they cook their chips/fries in the same oil as gluten.
Be supportive and don't treat them like they're causing a fuss.
If you, or someone you know is experiencing unexplained symptoms, take our quick online self-assessment to find out if it could be coeliac disease: www.isitcoeliacdisease.org.uk

Coeliac disease is in your genes! No, really! There is a gene that activates when coeliac becomes active in a person. You can have the gene but never develop coeliac! (So it's not a good meter for diagnosis)
The gene can activate through trauma, viral infection etc.
It’s #CoeliacAwarenessMonth: Discover how B cell subsets differ in children with type 1 diabetes and/or celiac disease.
This study sheds light on immune shifts that could impact disease management.

Myth Three – Coeliac Awareness Month
“It’s just a food allergy.”
Nope. It’s an autoimmune condition.
I don’t get a rash — I get gut damage and lifelong risks.
Respect the difference.

More #coeliacawarenessmonth while I recover from a day in the sun:
Anything over 20ppm of gluten can cause a reaction in a coeliac! Some are even more sensitive than that. A crumb can bring me down and I will have symptoms for a week. If I eat full gluten pasta, my symptoms last a month.
So ...

“Gluten-free food is healthier.”
Not if you’re swapping wholegrains for ultra-processed rice cakes and air.
Gluten-free ≠ automatically nutritious.

“A little gluten won’t hurt.”
Actually, it will.
It’s not a cheat day — it’s a full-body inflammatory crisis.

Coeliac has a genetic component! You are more likely to have it if someone in your immediate family has it!
It's also a gene that is switched on after trauma, stress, etc.
COVID helped in a lot of research for the possible viral on switch for some folks with coeliac.

It's #coeliacawarenessmonth ! :D
Coeliac disease isn't an allergy or an intolerance! It is an autoimmune disease where the body mistakes gluten as an invader and starts to destroy the intestines of the person in retaliation.
It can cause everything from cancer to malabsorption to brain fog.
A claymation-style bearded chef wearing a yellow hazmat suit and blue goggles prepares a plate of gluten-free pasta in a chaotic kitchen. The background is filled with glowing loaves of bread, hazard signs, caution tape, and biohazard warnings, emphasising the dangers of cross-contamination for people with coeliac disease.
Cooking gluten-free in a shared kitchen be like:
Hazmat suit on. Danger signs up. One crumb and it’s game over.
It’s Coeliac Awareness Month — we’re not paranoid. We’re just experienced.
