In a blatant & disgusting display of #WhiteSupremacy, the #ColfaxMassacre was commemorated in the 1920s w/ a monument honoring the 3 white men killed in the attack & in 1951 a plaque was erected on the sight of the courthouse, not to honor the dead, but to honor the end of Reconstruction.

Since there is no clear historical record from the #ColfaxMassacre, conflicting estimates say that deaths among the Black American’s range from 60 to 150 men.
Only 97 members of the mob were indicted for the massacre & only 9 were charged under the newly passed Ku Klux Klan Acts of 1870 & 1971.

Facts: The White League & the Ku Klux Klan retaliated by firing a cannon into the courthouse. After a shootout ensued, the Black American militiamen surrendered. They were shot and hanged before they could be tried for their civil disobedience.
